"Practicing Self-love"
An article on self-love has probably got you curious, but don't worry this is a "G' rated article.
The self-love that I am referring to involves the love, caring and respect that we have for ourselves. I think most of us spend so much time and energy caring for others that we can sometimes neglect our own needs.
Taking care of "me" is very important. This is not an ego thing, instead it refers to accepting ourselves for who we are and caring for our needs. If we want to share our love with others, we have to learn to love ourselves unconditionally first. However, this can be hard for some people, especially if we are harbouring feelings of low self-esteem, shame, guilt or inner anger. These negative feelings need to be replaced with more positive feelings like confidence, forgiveness, pride and joy.
The practice of self-love includes three basic steps: cleaning our body, clearing our mind and feeding our soul. Cleaning our body involves eliminating the bad stuff (fast food, smoking, etc.) and adding the good stuff (nutritious food, lots of water, herbal supplements, etc.) Clearing our mind includes getting rid of the stressful things (negative self-talk, worries and fears, etc.) and adding the good stuff (more rest, proper breathing, meditation or yoga, exercising, spa treatments, etc). Feeding our soul involves doing positive things that can help us become a better person (reading inspiring books, following our faith or beliefs, spending more time in nature, volunteering and helping others, etc.)
When you follow these simple steps, you will feel better and those around you will benefit from your love and happiness. Take the time to do something nice for yourself this week; go to the spa for a massage or take a hike in the forest.
And when your partner asks why are you so happy, just say, "I have been practicing self-love baby"!
